Your pop culture/art history news of the day:

James Franco opened a new show at the Pace Gallery where he re-created Cindy Sherman’s iconic film stills. What do you think about his new series?

I fucking hate James Franco and Cindy Sherman would too

For him to recreate this is just useless and derivative, what is he even trying to say here?

What is it with men needing to insert there dick opinions into everything?

YEP.

This makes me instantly hate James Franco. Fuck off forever.
Cindy Sherman fucking rules have some goddamn respect.

Quote reblogged from bibliofeminista with 1,435 notes

I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want and live all the lives I want. I can never train myself in all the skills I want. And why do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades, tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in life. And I am horribly limited.

A second issue of the Women Artists is due out this year and we’re looking for contributors. If you’re unfamiliar with the previous issue, we interviewed a handful of women artists about their work and lives. We’d like to continue that tradition in our second issue. If you’re a writer / interviewer / or just enthusiastic about women and their art and might like to be a part of the second issue, send us a message! Please be sure include an interview proposal. No deadline yet on when to get in touch but we’ll keep you updated.

“Favourite female artist is Sophie Calle. All of her work starts as an experiment that she just does for herself; she’s often just allowing herself to be pulled by an impulse, and the result is this un-contrived, beautiful, sincere snippet into her head and heart. She’s doesn’t start out with the intention of trying to make waves, she’s just making wonderful and interesting work.” - linguisterie

Love Sophie Calle! All the best performance artists are women!
