i got to see her at PS1 in ny in the late nineties, it was amazing. she just makes the whole audience incredibly uncomfortable.
she did a good piece about the con of the beats as that american legend pertains to women, that the threat of violence prevents women from ever going ‘on the road’ like jack kerouac or the merry pranksters or whoever.
well i guess no one ever claimed...

Sadly David Rakoff died 9-8-2012 age 47. I always think of him when someone waxes nostalgic about the horrors of gentrification. He was on Julie Klausner’s amazing podcast How Was Your Week?, talking about how everyone hates gentrification except the people who were getting knifed in the alleys of the old Times Square when it was really effed up.
